Odds are, the rest of your year’s travels are locked and booked. But, if you are in the market for a last-minute getaway, you can score some pretty great deals this time of year. Here are a few of my favorites. For getting cozy and embracing slower, shorter days… SIERRAVILLE, CALIFORNIA Skip Tahoe and head to the small town of Sierraville, 45 minutes north of Truckee and stay at Constellation Creek, a rustic, family-run cabin resort that’s one of my favorite hotels in California. When not cozied up in your cabin, enjoy a fall hike at one of the area’s lesser-visited lakes, followed by craft beers at Ronin brewery. Constellation Creek has 25% off all stays through end of November. SEATTLE, WASHINGTON Fall/winter is a totally underrated time of year to visit Seattle. As a UNESCO World Heritage City of Literature, it’s has plenty in the way of cozy indoor charms: indie bookstores like Elliott Bay, its iconic Central Library, robust coffee and craft beer scenes, lots of literary event, and a rad local radio station you can visit, KEXP. For hotels, splurge on luxury at Lotte Hotel or go for a hip, mid-rate stay at the Ace Hotel in Belltown. Both have much cheaper rates in the late fall/winter. GUERNEVILLE, CALIFORNIA Most people visit Guerneville in the summer, but I love it in the fall + winter: hikes in Armstrong Redwoods, wine tastings, apple cider, and drives to the coast? Say no more. Stay at Dawn Ranch for its lovely spa and sauna, or Stravand for chef-led dinners, aperitifs, s’more hours, plus free wine tastings at Marimar Estate now through end of December. For a bit of sunshine and outdoor adventures… PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA (pictured) One of my absolute favorite hotels in California the escapist, Mediterranean-esque Korakia Pensione. It’s perfect for a weekend (or week) doing a whole lot of nothing—just enjoying the pool, sunshine, and classic movies at their outdoor cinema. The breakfasts (included) are delicious too. I’m still daydreaming about those chilaquiles.
